this is possible... you could replace bonfires with tents so that when armies settle they congregate around tents! it would look quite good.

btw... mongol troops are now finito.
 
Great idea anglosaxon! I'll try it out and see what it looks like. The tents may be too big, but that shouldn't be a problem. It may look like a real Hun tribe!

EDIT: although if i do that all other races will congregate around tents instead of bonfires... hmmm
 
i tried it. it looks silly when you see a soldiers rear poking out of a tent, but from a distance it looks good - especially when the soldiers are camping outside a city! seige! :woot :woot
 
What a shame  :(  It was a really good idea. Maybe you (or i) could try different tents and see the outcome? The norse tent would be the best one to use because i believe it is the smallest.

UPDATE: The temple is done. The Hun buildings are probably the hardest ones to skin out of all the tribe mods i have made. The textures need to be so intricate  :D Oh i have the town centre, granary, markets and armouries to skin, aswell as villagers and soldiers (although i might use anglosaxon's).

Oh anglosaxon just a thought; if you feel like it you should release the soldiers seperately; i'm sure they would get more downloads that way. Just a thought  :p

yeah, i could release the soldiers seperatly, but you would have to point that out to people if you release first, since i have some work to do and cant do screenshots at the moment.

i have an idea of what they would look like. the melee troops have lamellar armour (scales) and the archers have none, but they have that weird furry hat.
 
Okay, that's how it's gonna have to be. I have already made soldiers and archers, so they will be released with the Mod. I'll mention some upcoming melee and ranged troops in the readme, if you like.
 
yeah, fine.

have you made a mongolian flag? i tried to do it but the game ended up with white, square flags when i tried to edit "t_flagicons0001.dds".

any solutions?
 
I think you may have named it wrong. Unlike the other textures, "flagicons_icons000" has no "t_" at the front. Because of this, the game cannot find the flagicons texture file. Try it now.
 
well i didnt name it wrong because i checked the names by putting the edited file into the unstuffed "data" folder. it asked if i wanted to replace it, and i said no, so the file name isnt wrong. theres probably something about the colour boundaries that i cant control.
 
This dosnt work for me ive tried re-reinstalling it and it dosnt work it is only some of the files for buildings and the villigers and army are all pink but otherwise nice design on the temple and granery :)

Hmm, the files are pink because there is a texture missing. Have you tried copying the files in manually instead of using the installer? Also, what is your operating system? (XP, Vista, etc)
 
im on a mac so i didnt use the installer because it dosnt work :( im on OS 10.4 and the weird thing is that when i zoom out the textures on my archers come back but if i zoom in they become pink blobs again :( and also ive fixed a few of them such as the siege workshop, archery place, villagers, warriors, markets and column but i had to download it from other packs such as the hun and aztec packs.

this is to do with the way BW2 loads textures. there is a separate file (with the word  "box" on the end of the name) for when you zoom RIGHT out which is only a few pixels and is 2D. this is to save ram on slow computers.

when you zoom in, the computer adds a 3D model and wraps a more detailed texture around it. you might be missing the normal texture files but not the "box" files for some reason. if a file is missing, the computer avoids crashing by replacing it with a pink image that says "error! data not found!" or something like that.

i dont understand macs, but i hope this lets you understand the problem. :)

i have a few more ideas -

as well as the two kingdoms, there are some small towns that are usually peaaceful. but when you attack them, they recruit small but elite sqaudrons of men who hide in the forest and ambush you.

the enemy can attack migrations, so you are forced to protect them with your own men.

when you are just about to send armies up the enemy city hill to attack, you get a cinimatic and the enemy lines up their soldiers at the top of a hill, with swordmen infront and archers behind. your soldiers have to be ready to attack up the hill and destroy the army.

these are just ideas, so i dont know wether or not they are possible.
 
yea cheers for that ive managed to make most of them work but im still having the same trouble with the archers i cant find the original files but so far most of the buildings are working and i've got the siege and melee army's working.
 
Yeah Anglo, it's possible and i'll look into it  :) The cutscene is possible, as is the hiding platoons thing, but i'm not sure if soldiers have the ability to attack migrants. Then again, they might, i can't quite remember if it's implemented. I'm thinking about what to use for a castle, if there will be one. No kingdom is complete without a castle  :D  I'm just thinking about a building that i could enlarge to look like a castle.

Yeah, thats a great idea; like elite bodyguard platoons of about 15 men each (ofcourse, i know you like huge armies so there will be platoons of <200 :P) It could be partially cutscene, but mostly fighting/building so every time a kingdom takes an island for example, it would show that capture and display a message like "Kingdom of Grimhael has taken Djag Island" then it would show the opinion of the opposing king. I can put actual voices into the game because i have realised i can just record speech into a music file (.ogg) and then just play that file, instead of playing a string from the main speech file. So the king could get really angry and send some elites to retake that island. Then if you upset one kingdom, they both team on you and you have to fend both of em off. Its gonna be hard, but i have spent ages making a challenge on one of my other maps and its really professional with custom voices. Anyway what do ya think? (I think Sigved and Fell would work, as they are the only regal looking models that are Norse. I suppose Fenrick could work better than Sigved however, because Sigved isnt really a realistic Norseman.)

EDIT: I wanted to use the long boat model to implement ships so the Norse can capture islands, and the King can escape. However, i'm not sure if that okay with Daxter. You never know, there may even be naval battles  blush If there were ships, there would be shipbuilder platoons that would move to the coast with some resources, build a ship, sail to an island, leave the ship, take the island and then sail back. However i may make them disassemble the ship when they reach the island because there would be a mass of ships on the coast .
 
armies attacking migrants is possible, i only discovered recently. if it is possible in scripts, i dont know. but any unit can attack innocent citizens. if a migration gets caught in the line of fire of arrows, they die, but only if they belong to the enemy. it works both ways.

and my sig is about the mod. like it? i made a mainscreen shot with a castle and the word kingdoms in the corner.

hey, i think this needs a new thread - whenever we discuss things they end up being on these threads where no one can find them. :p
