Hah! Yes, maybe I am taking the weenie’s way out. In my defense, I’ll offer a couple thoughts:
A) Based on the other “whatever it was” game, I suspect that the system updates I applied during the 6-month period had everything to do with being able to successfully launch and play that game. My tinkering certainly had no effect.
B) My PC was originally a Vista machine and I’m reasonably certain that Black & White didn’t give me much trouble with that OS. Although I’m not willing to go back to Vista [spits over his shoulder], I did clone the drive just after upgrading to Windows 7. I’m willing to load the clone, but I’ve breached my frustration threshold for the moment and prefer to see the effect of upcoming system updates.
In the meantime, and to unmercifully butcher and paraphrase a line from Inherit The Wind, “Black & White is a game, a favorite game, but it’s not the only game.”
