BW2 modding questions...

hey i have a couple of questions about the BW2 moding tools

1. How do you delete something that you've placed? i've looked and can't seem to find it...
2. Is the Textures part of the editor the part where you make grass and stuff? it got me a bit confused...and when i clicked on edit texture (or whatever it was lol) and selected the grass option (i think it was grass...it was below germ) the whole thing crashed... it keeps crashing whenever i try to do it again...what's wrong?

Have you checked the BW2 modding WIKI? It has a good write up on how to apply textures.
 
sorry but i can't seem to find it...i've looked all in the wiki... (well...not the WHOLE thing... i probably missed it knowing me  :p)

Yes it will show the grid. :yes

The best thing to do is to go over the entire land with a couple of base textures and then appply a transperant text on top of that. If you have only one texture on a block then the colours not be stable and flash off and on.[br][br]Added: Dec 08, 2006, 08:55 PM

Yes,  look at the game maps and use those names. It's all trial and error as to which name you get.
 
well... i didn't want to name them from the game's names... i was wanting to name them the names of towns from my book... I'm trying to make a copy of a map from the Dragonlance Chronicles series and i was hoping i could name the towns like they are in the book... lol
 
The game takes the names from an info file and this can't be altered. :no
 
crapperjacks...oh well thanks anyways =P

oh and what does it mean when the thing says in red letters across the center of the screen Geometry (or whatever) cost exceeded?  (for texturing i mean)
 
Don't worry about exceedng the layer limit or whatever that's called.

The best thing to do would be to check other maps to see how someone else has done it. There's a number of techniques which can be used. The first Japanese land is nicely done as are the two Norse lands.

The textures can be coloured to give it a more varied look. Also when applying grass, it takes the colour of the texture it's on.

Most of it is trial and eror until you get comfortable in figuring out which textures to use and how.

what's the audio stuff in the attributes section? is that like telling where on the map to play what theme?
 
That's for the ambient sounds for selected areas. Waves lapping when you get to a beach, stuff like that.
 
hey how do you put a creature select in the map? do you have to put it in the script or what? thanks =D
 
Creature select is a part of the challenge (.chl) file and needs to be scripted in.
 
ok i just ran my map to test it and see how it did and well...it works! =D but...it won't let me build anything (dragging houses and placing or selecting them from the toolbar...) can texture have anything to do with this?  also, all the people in every town go to the center of the town center and STAY there...0_o throwing rocks doesn't seem to do anything to make them move or anything either... and also...there's this herd of camels that i placed and they move around...but don't move their legs O_o

i haven't scripted or anything yet (except what's needed to make the map load)  so could this be the problem? thanks in advance :)
 
You've got to set the Nav Ribbon. The "N" on the tool bar.

There's a bit of a write-up in the documentaion on how to use it.
