Seems like problem after problem for poor little unnonymous, this time he cant seem to get BW surveyor to save a completed lnd. Leveling land 1 and making a couple pieces of land saves fine, but after making something worthy of being called an island (with a coast, mountains, hills, and a volcano) and trying to save it, surveyor likes to crash without saving anything :angry! Its really frustrating since ive heard you should try to get it done in one edit, with my edit takin about 2 hours. Anyone have this problem before and know how to remedy it? :help

Now this could be a Vista problem. But I haven't seen anyone post this before.

Are you running it as an admin? Also check the properties of that (.lnd) file to make sure it's writable.

Tried running as admin. and yes its writable. I thought it might be after a certain time it wouldnt work (like crash after 30 mins) so i tried saving after 10 mins and got something saved... it was in the landscape folder with the name i gave it but i cant find it to open in surveyor. When i tried opening it with surveyor i got an error message:
Error loading the file C:\Program Files\Lionhead Studios Ltd\Black & White\Data\Landscape\BWSurveyor.settings.xml please verify that the file exists and the syntax is ok by loadign the file with IE
When i load the syntax file with internet it takes me to a page with information about BWSurveyor, but i dont know how to check if its ok. Any ideas? (could it be something about leveling the map to 0 or 15 alt?)

Okay, I actually had this problem until two days ago, so this is pretty good timing. The problem with being able to save but not load is that it isn't recognized as a .lnd file, which every single program that saves maps seems to do ocassionally. I can't tell why, but the solution is really easy; Go into the Landscapes folder, find the file (it will show up as a "FILE" under file type, instead of "LND FILE" or Lionhead Land or whatever) with your landscape name, rename and add the tag .lnd. That's it.

If it's the same problem, then this is all it is; Just a case of saving without a tag.

I run XP, and will have no truck with Vista, so it is just a land editor problem.

:shocked. THANK YOU!!!! I only wish i could repay for all the help your giving me. i must be blind not to have seen that! If ya ever need help or anything, just ask (but you'd probably figure it out first :laugh2)[br][br]Added: [time]1249984687[/time]on a side note, is there any way to get rid of the dark spots from previous mountains?

Now that is weird. :upside

on a side note, is there any way to get rid of the dark spots from previous mountains?

Err... that seems like alot just to get rid of a few shadows. Since i dont have any map tools besides BWSurveyor and Tree Creator, i think id be better off imagining them as cloud shadows :;):

You don't have landtools? I think Kratzean put up a link to the download, lndsert tool 4 clears away shadows and coast glitches, in my experience. And you can repay me for my advice just by scripting. It would be nice to play some new material besides my own (and Kratzean's), and not many people are modding BW1 anymore.

And, like I said, I only just figured out what was going on. I was saving files, then going and checking if they were there before closing to make sure it saved, and sometimes couldn't ever get it to work. Now, the sky's the limit. I only wish I'd been there to help me.  :woot

EDIT: I guess I probably did something wrong at some point, but Kratzean's guide didn't work on my lndromat landscape, though I found that, in an evil profile, it actually lightens up and looks like a very cold, dark night, except for at night, when the lanterns and your hand have a very evil red glow, so it works out for an evil god. Anyway, it didn't seem like a lot of work doing it, and I sould be actually getting some original maps up soon.
