Hey everyone Im just a noob here hoping to get some answeres about making skins and perhaps even moddleing for B&W.

Although I cant run B&W at this time im interested in making skins for creatures.

1)If I make a skin for a creature in both B&W and CI do I have to do anything to the file to make the skin work in one game or the other?

In other words if I made a skin for the tiger in B&W would I have to edit that file to make it work for the tiger in CI?

2)Exacly how complex is it to make a skin? I know it can vary, but if I were to make a very basic skin would it really be all that hard?(Im a complete noob you know) And exactly what tools and programs would I need?

As for moddling...
I know it cant be easy, but im just curious.

I found a mod for the croc http://www.bwfiles.com/files/index.php?action=file&id=961
Now I like the idea...but I dont think it looks very good...

What would I need to do to make my own wings and such?
And more importantly...would the wings move or just be stiff?

I hope im not repeating a topic, but after useing the search bar I didnt find anything specific.

1/ A skin for B&W will work the same for CI. They both use the same files for the original creatures.

2/ It's fairly simple and you don't need to load the game to view skins. The following link should get you started.

Thanks for the help  :)
I guess I didnt look hard enough >_>

I guess I should have said I dont have the game right now...but hopefully I can start making skins withing the next week.

Oh and I may as well ask.
If I wanted to put a skin and/or mod of some sort up on your downloads area..how would I do it?

If you don't have the game installed, the individual creature mesh files can be found on this page.

To submit a file there's a link under "More" on the top menu bar. That will get the file to me and then I add it when I get a chance.

:shocked I didnt know I could just download them from here.

Well then I guess I should attempt one soon.

Thanks for all the help  :yourock:

EDIT: Sorry I some how made it post before I finished >_>

:sorry for the double post....

Well I've been messing with the skins and such, and I cant seem to get around this problem.

I open the TGA file and edit it with ImageReady then save.
Then I convert the file I just made to TGA and put it in the skin utility folder.
After that I put it through the converting file and it seems to work right.
Then I open up the L3D and pull up the skin...and I get this every time.

I dont know exactly what im doing wrong.
I only made a basic full colored skin at first to see if I could make it work, but I get this everytime.

Save the .tga file as "Uncompressed". You might have to do a "Save as" to get at the options to change it.

Im sorry but I still dont get it >_>

I'll explain it in detail.

First I extract the alligator_mesh in the folder with the "B&W Skin Utility"

Then I take the C_Croc_Evil L3D file and drag it onto the skin utility to make a TGA file.

Then I open up the TGA file in imageready and edit it.

My only opion is to save it as a psd file...It gives me no other option.

Then I take the psd file it made and open it up in irfanview and convert it to TGA.

Then I replace the old TGA file with the new one and drag the new one onto the skin utility.

Then I open up the L3D viewer and get that messed up image.

I really dont know what to do :/

Could it be that you cant color over the black on the skin sheet?
Even so I havent done it on all of them and they still dont work.

I dont see a "Uncompressed" option either...

Sorry I know im kinda a pain >_>

Try using Paint.net. It is free and will alllow you properly save a .tga file. A dialog box will pop up when saving. Uncheck Compression and select 24 bit.
