Hello,

Finally found b&w community.. I have one outstanding issue with my purchased b&w1 disc..  Every time i try installing it, it gives me an error when installing runblack.exe . Could anyone upload their original .exe? I tried extracting it from disc, but programs just cant recognize .cab files normally.. If you need proof i can upload image of installation or origin disc..

What's the error exactly?

Have you tried cleaning your disk?

What OS are you running on?

Yes, I tried, it started since I upgraded my win to xp long time ago..

OS - Win xp sp3

Sounds like you have some kinda permissions problem.

I'm not sure what the issue is.  Do you have Admin privileges?

Also, is it a legit disk or a cracked copy of the game burned onto another disk?

Yes, i have all permissions.
And the game is fully legal with case and original disk...
The file runblack.exe is stored in data1.cab and as I think is the last file there.. tried opening the .cab with dozen of tools, but everything failed..

I honestly don't know.  Sounds like there's something wrong with the disk, but I just don't know.

Anyone else have an idea?

The skin you have on your windowsXPsp3 is a custom one yes?

Disable it, install BW in SafeMode (F8 before bootscreen)

Thought that looked like an odd screenie for XP but I didn't think that would affect the install.

If that's the problem, then my hat off to you Sylcai :worship .

Ok... It worked, but I cant figure out whats the difference for installation? I understand that used different win codes can modify the gameplay, but whats with setup?  :shocked

Most skin modulations in XP also changes with alot of the base-files, and how .exe's are handled so it can enable skin overlays on windows, menus, and other surplus visuals.

In layman's terms, it really messes your computer up!

Running Windows in SafeMode does three things for your pc.
-One: It stops your custom modulation to function, returning full control to XP, instead of a program that was not created, or certified by windows.
-Two: It gives administrator rights.
-Three: Shuts down(read: Doesn't start) anything XP doesn't NEED to function, such as anti-virus, update programs, internet explorer! Or what else other programs.

The first causes your pc to stop messing about, and function as it should, custom skins change so many files, it makes the system unstable, as it requires 'hacking' to function, usually turning important things off, or turning stupid things on.

The second, ensures that if you weren't an administrator, or power user(user with administrator rights(usually the first created user)) you would atleast have the right to install anything.

The third most obviously, shuts down the silly programs a user installs. Things like Adobe PDF reader, or Drivers for audio, video, or even PlugNPlay devices.

This all means that the installation can not be interfered with by anything else, then the core of windows XP - and it tends to play nicely with most things, unless you start poking it with a stick. (Like your skin mod)

PS. You're welcome :) - and all said, that is a nice looking skin mod, emulation of MacOS?

I have a question and, what is hopefully an answer....

If you are talking about the look of the windows in that pic Remilkman took, that is not an emulation of Mac, as far as I know, thats an option in control panel.
If I got your question wrong, please correct me.  :p

My question:

Where is runblack.exe!?
Also, I am right now talkin' Windows (XP), not Mac.  :laugh2

In the installed folder ofcourse :p

At a default install it is located at C:/Program Files/Lionhead Studios Ltd/Black & White/*

There you should find runblack.exe - be carefull, it does not have it's own icon, you might skip over it, use <ctrl> F (find) to locate it. It is there.
