Moving installs/profiles across installations

Due to an odd turn of events I've had to re-install windows *and* BNW1.

I first installed BNW 1.0 from CD and then copied over my existing 1.2/1.3 (not too sure about this one) installation that I had backed up and then ran the patch for 1.2, just to be sure.
When I go to play the game, it ignores my profile completely and just starts a new game.

Any tips on how to solve this?
Thanks.

Profiles function on registry keys.

It is suggested, that before you copy your 'old' game onto the new one, you update it, and play it once, create a profile with the same name as your old game. And 'finish' creature tutorial. (Create new profile, then once the 'intro' ended, restart, and select 'skip creature training' option)

After this, copy your profile / game onto the installed, and it should work.
This is because the registries should be the same now. :)

edit;
If the save game doesn't work, the least you can do, is finish the creature tutorial, and replace your old creature, ontop of your current one, updating it effectivly.

Remember to rename the .crs (or something) file with the odd Ce3820HO - (or something) code, to the one that the install has... otherwise, it won't see the new creature. But I suppose you know how replacing files goes. :)

Just about any B&W1 save or set of files is useless if you  can't  restore the  registry keys.
Maybe it will be  easier just to  restart. Then use your knowledge of the game to get an advantage.
