Limited Graphics options?

Hello again everyone,

I've recently done an upgrade for my computer which involved upgrading my graphics card. The game runs perfectly smoothly and the computer has no trouble handling it. I know that certain options are grayed greyed out if a graphics card cannot cope with them but, my old graphics card (which wasn't very good) had none greyed out while my new graphics card has blooming, distortion and depth of field as grey.

My old graphics card was 128Mb and quite cheap

My new graphics card is:
MSI N9600GT
512Mb
(that's all i know at the moment)

Can anyone tell me why a better graphics card cannot do options that a worse one can?

It could be because it's not listed in the graphics.config file. Try adding it.

Its in the Data folder, open it with notepad.

Sorry, but i'm a bit confused as to how this folder works.

I've found and opened it but am not sure what to do next.

theres a key at the top i think

find your graphics card and change the values so that they are at the maximum number for each option

I thought it would be just a mess opening a new topic, so I asumed reviving an old one would be better.

My problem is that my graphics card is actualy to high / new to be listed, it's an nvidia 8800, would adding it to the list also fix the problem?

The hairs are curently 'stationair', and don't move about as I recall they should have.. O_o;

Anyway, I added the card, havn't tried it out yet.

Yes, adding it to the list should fix your problem. :yes

Did fur ever move?.. O_o;;

I think it's on it's highest, however, all the hairs seem to be fixed with tons and tons of hairspray, and don't 'wave about'.

O_o;; is my memory failing me?.. As I can recall the beard of goodie wavering about, instead of dissapearing into his belly each time his mouth shapes like an O

The fur should be fluid and move.

Did you add it using the the settings of 3 0 3 ? Did you go into the the graphics settings in game and bump all to the highest?

Finally the standard question.. Are your video drivers up to date?

It isn't,

Yes, Yes, (even on Forceware settings)

No idea! ^^

However, just adding 3 0 3 did nothing.. probably my card isn't 'just' 8800 O_o;; I think I need letters, however, the rest of the Nvidia cards didn't.. so I asumed I didn't either! ^^;;

I'll try updating ^^

To see what the name/type of video card you have Click on start >> Run and then input msconfig The name is listed under the Display tab. But I suspect that it will be 8800.

Also, in windows explorer, click on Tools and then Folder Options. Under the View tab, make sure that "Hide extensions for known file types" is unchecked. If it's checked, uncheck it and verify the name of the graphics.config file does not have .txt appended to it.

T-T Updating even disabled certain checkboxes...

I asumed now (after not having luck again) it might be reconising it as something else...

It should work the way you have it shown in the last example.

I asume you wanted this bit, to save others from a super long post, I'll supose I will PM the entire DxDiag to you, or email it ^^

ps. in my upset-ness, I deleted graphics.config, could you copy paste it's contents, or send me the file, or point me in a direction were I could get it again?.. (and no.. it's not in my trashbin, as I emtied it, thats how upset I was with the file!)

Open a new text document, copy and paste this into it and then rename it to graphics.config

Code:

; 2 = med
; 3 = high

; MINSPEC : controls shading / features

; 1 = mid quality
; 2 = low quality
;
;
; Running from the top row to the bottom,
; if the graphics device name contains the 1st column, then that configuration will be selected.
