I think B&W had tones of great ideas & functionality for a late 1990's game (even though it came out in 2001... should've came out in 1999 coz it was in 5 years in development).

The weather system says you can get the same weather in the game as outside your window. Does that mean if it's raining in Scotland all the time... then in B&W we can get an abundance of trees?? Anyway... it says to get it working we need to log into bwgame.com at least once.. & previous signed up an account. Ofcourse... we got same problem with the naming villagers email feature.... there is no more B&W Online...

It would be cool if Lionhead or someone figured out the registry settings for the weather system.. possibly pointing to local machine with another utility to desribe the weather...

Both those features never really worked.  I would question as to how finished they were in the final product.

Sorry :( .

Am sure they worked if they were in the last-minute-changes README file... and mentioned in the patch updates...

plus there's registry keys, etc.

would be cool if LionHead gave us some specs on a weather server, & email interface without the bwgame.com registration...

Don't get me wrong.  I agree completely that it'd be cool but I've read plenty of threads over the years on the official forums from people who would have also liked to have seen this work, but it just didn't :no .

The B&W weather server is set in the registry, so that's easy enough to change.

What we don't know, is the format in which the data is sent. Even if that was known, one still needs to query the various weather servers around the world for the data, transform it into something the game can handle. Then there's the problem of determining which weather server is nearest to the player since the game goesn't know where you live.

If it did work, I think it was only in the UK and possibly Europe.

In the other thread you mention (or someone) about we can hack the weather system anyway... and get it to snow in MP... that would give us clues about the data... unless it was plain text scripting...

We should write a petition to Lionhead to help us out here for the villager email system & weather system... am sure we'd get lots of people agreeing...

but times have changed now that Microsoft bought Lionhead :( and they'd leave this Magic Carpet behind..

The weather system for a map can be altered. But once that map is loaded, it can't be changed. But I don't know if it would work on multi-player map.

If LHS couldn't fix it when the game was popular. I've got my doubts about something being done about it now. Especially since all of the files for B&W have been archived and are no longer on the server.
