Host multiplayer server?

Hello. I wish to know how to host a server through hamachi OR tunngle (I'll chose what's most easy). I am kind of desperate since I want to play this game online with my boyfriend. I have no idea how the "porting forward" and such things work, I'm a real noob. 

If I want to host a server, do my bf also have to configure his ports? I would really appreciate it if someone could do a tutorial, step by step. Which patch should you use?

I'm going home tomorrow and I'm going to try to figure out how to do this but I really need help, I have searched everywhere but the things I have read are also kind of hard for me to understand. 

If anyone could help me I would be so happy, but I don't know if this forum is very active anymore.

Yes, I have checked them but I still don't understand some things. Can my partner just connect via the tungle thing? He doesn't have to port something forward or whatever it is?

I have made a network on hamachi, my friend has joined it. We have patched b&w to same patch (1.2), but still he doesn't show up in the lobby in the game ...
