Ok my black and white 2 game had worked fine for ages on my grforce 7600GT graphics card but since i had bought a geforce 9600GTOC graphics card i can't select all the graphics settings like i could with my old card and i have half the fur and hair missing on my creature and consicence plus the game looks nowhere near as , i think this may be because the game won't run properly on direct x 10 but i have no idea can anyone help? (I have all the drivers installed and yes im on vista.)

Have you got the proper drivers for that video card?

Hmm, I have a very similar card in my new computer, with DX10, but I have yet to install B&W2. It's a little late today, but I'll try to install it tomorrow and see how it ends up. I'll post results later. For now all I can say is good luck.

Hey LWarrior, is your graphics card the supported video cards in Bnw2, try looking in the "configfile"and find your card there.

Good thought JumpDin. The 9600 is a mid range ATI card and is already listed. :)

Go into the graphics.config file and find the line starting with 9600 and change the numbers to 3 0 3 or whatever works best.

If it's a GeForce it's an nVidea chipset, not ATI. He currently has a high-end nVidea. I'm going to install Black and White 2 right now, cause I have 9600 too, and I'll post back here to say how it looks, with a picture as well.

Okay, got it. I'll admit it doesn't look as great as I'd like, but I think it might be as much as the game can use my video card. Here's a picture of it during creature selection with the consciences too.

I don't know what else to tell you. But that's how it looks on my 9600 GSO.

The game doen't care who makes the card. All it's looking for is the number of the card in the graphics.config file. Since 9600 is already there with a setting of 1-1-1. This is what it's using to run the game.

Open the graphics.config file and change those numbers to something more appropriate for that card. 3-0-3 is a good place to start.

What you can't seem to grasp however is that the 9600 is the ATI, if I change it in there for the ATI card, it won't do a thing, and the nVidea one isn't listed. I'm pretty sure it DOES care who makes the card in the graphics.config.

Have you tried it? ???

The name ATI has a semicolon in front of it which is a comment and is ignored by the game.

Remember make sure your video card is at least 1024MB if you wish to change your settings in the config.file. Would you rather have a laggy game with good graphics, or with a minimum setting but is very fast? And besides, the game is still good even without the fur. :)

Well here's how my creature looks like with the numbers changed to 3 0 3. Honestly, I can't see much difference, but then I noticed that in video options everything was unlocked to me. So I stand corrected. So yea, LWarrior, that's what you need to do, change the numbers for 9600 to 3 0 3. It'll look better, but I don't know how much better.

Here's a pic of my creature after I changed the numbers:

You don't need 1gig on the video card for BW2

I have 512MB (8x the system requirements) and it still runs at like, 20FPS maximum (unless I'm as far into the sky as I can go, then it might be like 35)

So... while excessive, I've gotta reluctantly agree with JumpDin :(

Thats must be because of your CPU or your GPU, not it's MB.
Almost no games these days need 1GB for playing.

Is it for best quality with super fast speed? I think 1000mb is the best. JUST REMEMBER, IM NOT FORCING YOU GUYS TO UPGRADE!

256m onboard is normally plenty for B&W2.
With that said  my graphics card  can use up to 1gig of system ram if it needs to.
If your system has plenty of ram this can give you  a performance boost  to better than ... High cost High Ram G/cards.
.
Just to put things into  perspective if you play at 1680x1050  and at max detail then a cheapo HD2600 /256m ram is all you need but is about on the limit so you can expect  some minor slowdowns with very high populations  or  during  BIK playbacks,  but
.
By the time any game needs  1gig onboard G/ram  the GPU will be obsolete anyway.
Game makers  seem to work to the  "mass market" rule  the amount of  PC's  with graphic  cards  above 512m is minute so the need for a 1G card is  just for those who want to say ..................
.
Just  look at  the Spore requirements  3y after B&W2.

It would for a not  needed  G/card  like  you  recommend others to buy.
Most PC's  are built for low cost but high ( claimed) performance this is your mass market.
Go back a year and  this  is where the  most games will  be pitched to work fairly well on,  hence Spores  low specs.
A 128m G/card  is enough to run the game. 256m would be better and 512m  will probably  max the game out.
.
.
Sorry I missed  your comment Jaden.....this sort of proves my point  in a way an  8x system just  can not  make full use  of  your  G/card in a typical gaming situation.
The restriction in your case is probably just the  8x  interface just not  being  fast enough  to carry the data at  the  speeds  you could  use.
