How would I go about editing the symbols of AI Gods?
I've seen replacements for download here, but can't figure out how to do it myself.

I couldn't do it either, so.. I can't help you.. I'm just posting here to let you know we didn't forget you! ^-^

The simple fact is  you get 16 "player  symbols" to play around with  the rest are hard coded.

Patrick Selter has submited a number of alternate player symbols for ones which are hard coded in. So it is possible to alter those also

I indeed agree to the fact its do'able, as there are files here on Kayssplace that have lethys, khazars and nemessis icon changed, these also change the icons of the CCPs in skirmish games.

After sifting trough EVERYTHING on kayss, here I found the icons!

Patrick Selter has alot of files sent to here.. O_O

Anyway, you have the files now, so you can look to what file it is that is edited, and perhaps how he unpacked/packed it!

I figured it out.
The following files are the AI God symbols;
Kazarr.cps
Kazarrl.cps
Lethis.cps
Lethisl.cps
nemesis.cps
nemesisl.cps
All of which are located within Data\Textures.

They are all .raw files.
I tried renaming Kazarr.cps to Kazarr.raw, and it opened just fine in Photosop CS.

Exactly  as I said  16  are to play around with  safely / easily.
The rest are "do able" but a lot more work  and risk  if you are trying to make your own.
Just not worth the effort.

More work? More risk?
Not at all.

All you need to do is open the AI symbols, change it to whatever you wish, and save the file.
In other words, the same thing you would do for any player symbol.

As for risk, if you have half a brain you'd have a backup of the old AI symbols just in case something DID go wrong.

Though you may be right about it not being worth the effort, at least for me..
For some reason the AI Gods in the story lands no longer display their symbols, and I haven't yet edited them so that isn't the problem.

Edit: Modified one of the symbols and tested it in a skirmish game, where AI symbols still show up.
Works perfectly.

What are you saving them as? Grey scale bitmap like the player made symbols?  ???

Using Photoshop CS, I open them as .raw files, open a regular player symbol, make it a pattern, paint it over the AI symbol, save it as a .raw, make a copy of the  edited .raw file, and change its extension to .cps.

Just wondering  why?
Anyone should get Photoshop C5 for  10-100x the price of the game.
When  MS paint can  do the job  for free  on all but  enemy gods symbols.
We  are talking about 4  small graphic symbols in an old game that retails at £5 or  3 for £10 and used for much less.

Repick your own symbol, Its a bug that happens when editing ANY symbol ^-^

Repicking your own, fixes the bug, as it requests a "gobal symbol refresh".
