Could not create the 3D device

ive recently installed bw2 on my laptop for the 1st time and just after the logo pops up on startup it comes up with an error message saying could not create 3d device. can anyone suggest any solutions please?

What's the video card on that laptop. It sounds like the pixel  shaders can't be found.

I also got it on BOTG but B&W2 works fine.
It happens just at the point where the first loading screen should appear.

Ok this was  a driver issue for me. A clean install was needed not just an install over.

Is your graphics card completely up to date? ???

That caused me a few problems before i found another update

The drivers were/are up to date.  the problem seemed to be the old drivers not being removed first then installing the new drivers.
Sometimes if you just put new over old it causes problems. This is the first time ever it affected me but from now on its delete old drivers  reboot and install new.
