A number of issues

Hi all. I'm a very old player of B&W. I played this on my very 1st PC (win95) shortly after being released. I recently felt the nostalgia of this game and decided to pop the CD back for another go, this time on a Win7 64bits.
I expected something to go wrong, which it did. This forum was helpful in shedding some light on some of the problems but not all, so here I am.

The 1st issue was the fact that the graphics were always at its lowest no matter if I put it to max on the setup or in game. According to you guys there's nothing to do about it due to GPU cards incompatibility.

The other issue was manual/autosave crashes due to probably corrupted saves? I recently lost all progress when i had a specific autosave that caused the game to crash on land 3. Upon loading a manual save, the 1st autosave to pop up would go as normal but it was always the 2nd autosave that made the game crash. No idea why that one and not the 1st or 3rd.

Now come the unanswered issues related to the above. The game can't remember any options I set in game. I tried to disable autosave as a possible fix but the game doesn't remember. I uncheck the box, go to another Tab, say Players tab for example, then I go back and the autosave is checked again. Same with my symbol. I always use the Dragon like symbol but every time I move out of that tab and come back the default symbol comes back.
My last idea was to uncheck autosave and immediately quit B&W. After that, B&W crashes every time on startup and I'm forced to reinstall the game.
Is there anything that can be done to prevent this? Is there any text file in the game folder that would allow me to "true"/"false" game options?

Update:
Setting compatibility options to "Win XP (Service Pack 2)" successfully opens the game again but unfortunately the autosave box is checked again.
I found the Patch uninstaller you have and tried it out. I found out that my settings are saved only when my game is patch free, weird...

An issue with older games is that it doesn't understand how win 7 security over the program files.
If you change the  security level for your user on the Lionhead Studios Ltd folder in Program Files (x86) could fix some of your problems

I disabled all security nonsense of Win 7 as soon as I installed the OS. Also the game is installed C:/Games/Lionhead Studios/...
