ive been wondering wheter BW1 was better than BW2, since so many people have got "nostalgic" :blues: about the game. feel free to tell me which was the better game thru post or poll.

BW1 i believe, when i find my bw1 I'm gonna play it again, it is clearly a better game apart from the graphics but it doesn't phase me from playing it. I feel like a god in bw1 in bw2 i feel like I'm playing Age of empires. I don't like the idea of the tribute either, nuff said.

I loooove strategy games  :yes .. but I also like being a god  :devil ... tehehehe.. who wouldnt??

... so yeah I beg to differ.. Black adn white 2 for me  :)

My vote is for the original game.

Even after almost eight years there's still something magical about it.

I have a soft spot for both i'll admit, but at the moment it's Black & White 2 for me. One day i will like BW1, then the next i will like 2, it just varies with me  :)

I must side with those who play the second!

being an artist, I love anything with good graphics, and being able to create armys is something every game needs... but so few have...

yea, seriously, you should even be able to camand people in rpg or other types of games, not just strategy games... even though strategy games have the best format for wageing massive battles...

oh my days! the mighty kays! :shocked

i didnt expect to get such a wide range of replies, i thought only a few people liked bw1. i must admit i loved it when i first played it but it was too... well... vague. the three creeds, the weird thing where villagers constantly need wood... it was more complete than bw2 but it was... well... weird. :blues:

sorry bw1 fans. :blush

i agree. i love changing the graphics of the game and making it suit my mood. i might be in a lord of the rings mood (which lasted around a year) for example so i changed all the files.

ps: d'you think lionhead made BW2 easy to mod on purpose?

One of the reasons I enjoyed playing BW2 is the graphics and the wonderful screenshots that you could get. But I found the game to be a bit to easy and mechanical. And the creature also. :p

Aside from the differences in creatures, the method of spreading your influence changed. Before the idea was to go out and take other villages by whatever means you choose to use. Either capturing that village or creating an ally. In BW2 you try to entice the other villages to join yours bolstering your population. But not your actual sphere of influence. To do this you now need to take the villages  by force and then repopulate them. Not quite the way it happens in the real world.

The use of the armies was done pretty well. However creatures and armies don't mix. 'Nuff said..

On the topic of creatures, In BW2 the creature was no longer a part of your profile and a pet who will accompany you not only through the game but also on side trips to skirmish maps and multi-player. With BW1 you needed to take the time to train it to do your bidding. That was part of the satisfaction of the game since each creature developed an individual personality. In BW2 the creature is more  like a preprogramed windup toy. Where as BW1 creatures can be unpredictable and do need to be watched.

They also ruined how creature fights are done. It's too mechanical.

BW2 was dumbed down to try to drawn in more users. Since a lot of people couldn't grasp some of the intricacies of the game. Like the total lack of menus. Especially when starting off, BW1 isn't a game that you can just rush through. You need to get more involved with it. And  that didn't appeal to a lot of people.

ps: d'you think lionhead made BW2 easy to mod on purpose?

LHS sotra supported modding in BW1 and based on the popularity promised to release modding tools for BW2.

So the answer is probably. :yes

Lol Kays, thats how i feel about the difference between bw1 and bw2 even if they made a remake of bw1 but with bw2 graphics i'd buy it, infact im gonna go buy the orginal with the orginal graphics it doesn't matter.

BW1.
I've only ever played the BW2 demo but...
Compared to BW, BW2 is a disgrace.
I think it's better to play BW2 first, and then get BW1. =P BW2 is too easy. I beat Norseland in, oh, about a half hour to an hour. And in BW1 it takes several hours to get through one land. And the creature, as Kays said, is more like a toy in BW2. Slap it a few times, it never does it again. And BW2 only has 5 creatures, one of them you need a farking limited edition, expansion pack, or pre-ordered game. What happened to my break dancing Leopard? >:O  :banghead Or my Rhino, who I taught to shoot fireballs at Madino whenever I lost. ='(
And  I hate this whole, "Conquering thing". Umm... What happened to terrorizing villages with lightning to get them?

I think BW1 was kinda better. Well the graphics in BW1 were umm.. "adequate" but the gameplay was better. Aside from creature fights you feel more godlike there because you have a temple and stuff... I found "Belief" better than "Impressiveness". It takes time to complete a certain map. I couldn't prove easy if you get farther into the story.

BW2 has NICE graphics but gameplay was downed. The act that there were armies was good, but it doesn't feel enough. BW2 relies to much in building and the people when they rely in you. Gameplay was easier. The creatures look cooler now but they seem to human and small compared to the people. Town management is harder here and the lack of miracles is annoying. Your a GOD right, so why the lack of miracles?

BW1 was the best even though it has "not enough" graphics. BW2 was also addicting but lacks "Godliness" gameplay. This is my opinion, not yours so I will not argue..lol.. I do agree with others who like BW2 for the moment cuz it was newer and nicer graphics. I have to agree too I liked BW2 at first then I played BW1 sometime again... I just needed an overall..

I'm torn between both games actually. The first one concentrated on nurturing your creature and peoples needs- which I liked but I could not fathom the game mechanics to get the best out of the game. Plus I hated the idea of your creature getting tired because of miracle casting.

B+W 2 however I like more due to the fact that the creature was more intelligent and of course the graphics did not hurt my eyes like its predecessor.

I'm all for B+W2 however I would have liked an area of the game to concentrate on your creature to teach him more miracles such as MegaBlast?...I forgot the meteor one's name.

WOW! the poll has levelled out to 50:50! i didnt expect that. i thought bw1 would have a small cult following and bw2 would have a massive "lets buy it" fan base, but i was wrong.
i suppose this poll is the ultimate reveiw for BW1+2.

Can't believe I forgot to place my vote on this.

*Tips scales in B&W1's favour :D *

B&W2 has alot going for it, but like most Lionhead projects from a few years back, it was an incomplete masterpiece - much like B&W1.

There are many differences between the two games (alot of which are documented in this topic), however the big difference as I see it is that while B&W1 is also an incomplete masterpiece, it seems to be more complete than is successor.

B&W2 development time was cut drastically short in comparison to B&W1.  Some of the things known to suffer from this were namely the creature AI (in particular the interface) and the number of lands in the game.

To be fair, if B&W2 had been able to get more production time without having to suffer corporate politics, then this poll might have been quite different.

ohhh, tragedy..... oh, woe..... so sad......
in fact if bw2 had more time spent on it it would be one of THE most popular games, but life is never that simple.

Well, perhaps I'm over simplifying.

B&W2 did have alot of time spent on it, however there were some snags that showed up which required more production on it.  In addition, Lionhead was changing it's corporate structure at the time (can't remember the details), but that fell through near the end so Lionhead.  They were expecting more money to come out of ithat which materialise, so they ran out of money for B&W2.  They had to wrap it up and get it out there before they went broke :( .
