cross post from official forums.

What's the level of interest in Modelling? Someone requested that I hammer out this model format but I don't want to touch it unless people actually make models.

And has any work been put into it yet from anyone else?

Hi, I think I know where this is coming from. I have been following the posts on those boards. :)

This is something which has been discussed a number of times in the last year and a half at the BWGame boards but so far from what I can tell no one has looked into it seriously. Until The Bag made that statement I don't think anyone realised that it could be possible.

Interest here is probably minimal. Myself I'm interested in seeing something like that for a number of reasons. The main one being that it might spark a renewed interest in BW2 modding. And BW2 in general. But it might be best to see what responses you get on the offical boards and here.

Have you looked into it to see how difficult this is to do and/or if it is even possible?

Thanks for at least stepping forward and offering to look at this. :)

Actually. A partner of mine was contacted in the Fable:TLC modding scene a few hours ago. He's a coder, but I have a ton of experience cracking file formats.

From the Black and White wiki it seems quite a few core formats haven't really been messed with. Such as the compiled scripts. :)

Depending on the response I might go all in and look at anything thats left.

edit:
Funny. The post that got Me and Hunter was the one before The Bag.

If the .chl files could be decompiled you'll definitely receive gratitude from those of us who have been dying to see how LHS put the scripts together. :D

I hope that there is some response over there because you've got my interest up.

I've started work on Models.

A buddy is cranking away at decompiling the scripts. May take a few days as there's something like 300 instructions.

We also looked at the CreatureEditor that was included with the game.

Wow, that's some progress.  :)

I think the creature editor was used by the developers to change the creature's atrubutes during testing.

My my, you guys sure do work fast.  It'd be quite interesting to look under the bonnet of how they scripted B&W.

The only thing I'm concerned about (and I may be wrong), is that as a general rule comments don't get included in compiled code meaning we'll have to figure out what all the scripts do ourselves.

Meh, no biggie :D .

We'd work faster if we had more help. ;)

And ya I don't know how pretty the decompiled scripts will be. Certainly work on it though.

Oh my god, this is the most interesting news I've ever heard, I certainly be absolutely grateful and appreciative if you guys could do this. It would certainly help me alot with my projects.

Keep up the good work.

As for a challenge file decompiler, I agree with kays but also we can get access to the original epic scripts written by Lionhead.

:D  :)

All my work so far has been entered into the wiki.

Yeah, this is something which has been discussed a number of times in the last year, I think in mine i'm interesting in such reverse engineering....
