is there any way to evade the layer cost limit? i always exceed it and its really irritating because it ruins your map.

Use less layers. :p

It doesn't seem to make a difference if you do exceed it. Check the landscapes by LHS, they all exceed layer cost.

Unfortunately, I found out that last fact (that it doesn't matter) late.  So my last landscape I was testing looks like I just used auto-layer over and over (I did) :(

But yeah, as far as I can see it's just a big red message, but unlike most big red messages you don't need to pay attention at all.

Is it the fact that I don't BW2 edit that I don't get it... or.. are you people talking in code..?

(Or could it be both!? :o)

thats a relief to know. i thought exceeding it had some kind of consequence later on, so i never did =p thanks for the tips guys

It's not code we're talking about, just the map editor.

There might be performance problems or glitches (doubt it), but yeah, it doesn't noticeably do anything to hurt the map.

Maybe performance when zoomed out, but when up close the game is only rendering a few blocks.

It's hard not to exceed the layer cost when you've got a large map. I do have a couple of medium sized landscapes  where I only used about 3-4 layers and the layer cost is about 850. But for most of my other landscapes, it's about 1200.
