Ok, I'v been member here for a while now, and I really haven't been a use to this BnW community except just entertaining you guys with some vids here in there, i want to change that.

I know I'v asked this a couple of times (whether you knew i did or not) but i really can't get this whole skinning thing down the first problem is i cant get any skinning software to work. 2nd is i just plain dont know how to skin. So, i'm gonna be straight up with you.

Can someone please post a list of some skinning softwares or something that'll help me start. Yeah I'm a noob i admit but thats just because i haven't done this skinning stuff before. Anyway, more to the point, if anyone could please post some stuff here that'll help me get started, That'd be great.

1 more thing, im really sorry about this Kays I think i'v posted something like this in the past but this time im being straight up. But if you could post a list of skinning software or any other tools i'd probably need for skinning or anything else such as map editing thanks alot. :)

Im pretty sure this'll be the last post on this stuff for me so no worrys.

Thanks to all of you that'll help, DPsoul

Basically although i have Photoshop CS3 i choose not to use it. Instead, i use the free program, Paint.NET. It doesn't require you to get a plugin for .dds files and its alot more user friendly. Just go to www.paint.net
Incase you didn't know, you need to download the modding tools off this site. When you have installed them, go to C:\Program Files\Lionhead Studios\Black & White 2\Tools\LionheadUnstuffer. When there, double click the "LH Unstuffer Batch" file and it will do its work. When the number hits about 3900 it will finish. Then, go to C:\Program Files\Lionhead Studios\Black & White 2\Data\ctr\ and use Paint.NET to open the textures. When edited, save them in the same place, overwriting the previous one. Don't worry if it looks bad, everyone starts somewhere  :p The different parts of the creature are layed out in the file. So for example, the Ape's entire head is to the bottom left, and its feet and hands to the top left. You should recognise this. The texture that you want to be opening is the file ending in "_d", so for example "t_ape_base_d.dds" would be the texture for the neutral ape. This rule applies for all creatures. the "_s" files control how reflective the creature is, and can be used to give the creature a cool glow. That's a bit of an advanced technique though. I entirely forgot what the "_b" files were for, but its not worth editing them at all. Don't edit/save the "scalebias" files, they crash your game for some reason.

That should just about be all you may want to know. Ask if you wanna know something else  :)

We also have FAQ  which might also be of help.

the "_s" files control how reflective the creature is, and can be used to give the creature a cool glow

Can you confirm this? The above mentioned FAQ states that it's the "_b" file. As well in the "Glowing skins" tutorial, Jackmix alters the "_b" file.

Perhaps he mixed it up a bit, the _S file is the heightmap as I recall.

It determines how your creature looks without fur, the turtle creature in BoTG makes most use of this.

Or, it's a fur colour change thingie.. that determines how many colours the furstrands should get from the colour (_D) texture.

Not sure! :p
