Black squares on torches is a Black & White 2 bug. This patch is for Black & White 1.

I don't believe it to be stable so I'm not going to recommend it. Even on modern hardware the game is still running on DX8 and rendering more than originally intended at once is going to make crashes much more likely.

Patch 1.42 depends on 1.1 and 1.2 if you do not install those correctly you can not install 1.42 - 1.42 removes the DRM itself and does not need a crack, adding a crack will remove the fixes included in 1.42.

It's hard to find any concrete evidence, it was a retail game so it may of popped up as early as the 25th, but I think the 27th was the intended release date.
